Books to read
- Experience and Education - John Dewey
John Dewey was one of the most significant educational thinker in his times. He changed fundamental approaches to teaching and learning by introducing progressive learning and experiential learning. My reflections on Dewey>> - Tuesdays with Morrie - Mitch Albom
In this book, the author write about the final lessons he receives from a college professor, Morrie, dying of Amyotrophic Lateral Aclerosis (ALS). During their last visits, both men discuss different topics such as death, love, culture, marriage, regrets, etc. These important subjects make Mitch Albom thinks about his own life, aging, forgiveness, family, and compassion. The story was touching and I recognized the influence and impact a mentor can have on a learner. - The Courage to Teach - Parker J. Palmer
Palmer is a world-renowned writer and speaker in topics that focus on education. In this book, he provides guidelines for good teaching but also expand the basic knowledge by making the reader explore his/herself and becoming part of the community of truth. He explains that the educator is mainly a facilitator of knowledge and both engaged students and educator should learn together. This insightful book reminds me why I am an educator and why I chose this vocation. My reflections on Palmer>> - Telling ain't Training - Harold D. Stolovitch & Erica J. Keeps
This book is printed by the American Society for Training and Development. It goes through the basic of Adult Learning: how do learners learn, why do learners learn, and how do you make sure there is a learning transfer. The book aims to teach educators 'fool' proof teaching techniques to reach the ultimate goal: learning. This book was a great summary of what I have learned during my M.Ed.
