There are many elements at work in the construction of a great course. Ultimately, the success of the course is measured by the answer to one critical question: Does this course contribute to the learning experience for the audience by being applicable and relevant for the learners?
According to Instructional Designers Dick and Carey, "Components such as the instructor, learners, materials, instructional activities, delivery system, and learning and performance environments interact with each other and work together to bring about the desired student learning outcomes".
(Dick, Walter, Lou Carey, and James O. Carey (2005) [1978]. The Systematic Design of Instruction (6th ed.). Allyn & Bacon. pp. 1–12. ISBN 0-205-41274-2.)
There are many instructional design models available to people wishing to develop educational models. I chose the Dick and Carey model in order to create my specific project. The project plan I created included a need statement, an audience analysis, objectives, learning assessment, facilitator's guide and evaluation. Each step of this systematic process relied on learning and instructional theory to ensure instruction quality. In my capacity as instructional designer I made sure that, as the project progressed, I received feedback from peers, evaluated each step, and made the necessary adjustments to ensure that objectives were met.
After completing the Dick and Carey Instructional Design model, I designed my own visual ID model based on this first experience. See here>>
