Education Philosophy
As an educator in a medical community, I am committed to encouraging learning as a way of life. To do this I know I need to ignite a learner’s own enthusiasm for growing, improving. My role as an educator is to provide opportunities for students to learn creatively. By which I mean, daring to think critically about their own assumptions and perspectives, and to build on their life experiences and to engage in open-hearted dialogues that enrich each learner as well as every other student and facilitator in the group. Learning is not only a way of life, but it is a collaborative undertaking.
I am committed to employing different strategies to reach the wide array of learning styles and aptitudes. I know my teaching approach must avail itself of a variety of approaches and tools (visual, auditory, inspiring texts) in order to present topical materials effectively. I have experienced the full impact of great teaching, and I have witnessed students coming alive to the full promise that comes with greater facility and knowledge. It is such a privilege to watch initially hesitant health care workers awaken to a full sense of empowerment as they master new information and remain eager for more. My desire is to enable learners to reach their personal goals and to positively influence their lifelong learning. Constant reflection (feedback, evaluation) will help me re-evaluate my techniques and philosophy and adjust and improve them in the course of my career. |
