Program Design
- Communication in the Workplace: Designed and developed a course for leaders on how to communicate better with a team. The course's objectives are to establish a safe environment to facilitate dialogues and to learn how to master the elements of a conversation in a critical instance.
In this project, I used the knowledge gained in adult learning theories and influencers (J. Dewey, A. Maslow, M. Knowles) in order to develop a learner-centered course. As an educator, I have a more humanist approach. I aspire to provide opportunities for students to learn creatively, think critically about their beliefs, points of view, experiences and encourage a dialogue among them so that they will understand different perspectives and learn collaboratively. - Employee Engagement: Collaborated in a course development on Employee Engagement for supervisor and director level leadership.
Some elements I brought to this course development were the need to include visuals to reach multiples intelligence (H. Gardner) as participants learn differently. I also emphasize the need to include icebreakers. The goal of icebreakers or openers is to establish a social relationship between other participants and facilitator, open a dialogue and build a shared focus. The social interaction of these exercises enhance education by creating a student-centered cooperative learning. - Conferences: Developed and managed conferences on Wellness and Women's Health topics for clinical and non-clinical participants.
The knowledge in Program Management I received during my masters program emphasize the need for people connections. Knowing people to reach out to build an effective team and/or to collaborate with is an important aspect of a successful program. - Learning Management System: Developed and teach courses related to HealthCareSource Learning Management System called Netlearning.
As I looked over the results of my Philosophy of Adult Education Inventory (PAEI), my score reflected that I have a behavioral approach to teaching, defined by learning that is acquired through conditioning, usage of positive and negative reinforcement and more individual work than group learning. These results really didn't fit who I am as an instructor but actually showed what type of teacher I tend to be when I present highly technical material like in this course.
